Shanghai, 24 October 2024. The International automotive supplier FORVIA HELLA has received the China Automotive New Supply Chain Top 100 Award by Gasgoo for its Coolant Control Hub max (CCH max). It is a customized and simplified thermal management for electric vehicles. As a highly integrated system for the thermal management of the drivetrain, battery and interior, the Coolant Control Hub max is an innovative coolant distribution system that enables the cost-efficient use of environmentally friendly refrigerants, reduces the complexity of thermal management and increases the performance of electric vehicles.
"We are pleased to receive this award from the local leading industry media outlet Gasgoo. This award not only highlights FORVIA HELLA's leadership role in innovation, but once again confirms our commitment to drive the trend of electrification by further advancing the centralization of thermal management in electric vehicles”, says Yu Wei, Senior Vice President of Business Group Electronics Components at FORVIA HELLA. “Leveraging the extensive global expertise in the field thermal management, we are able to support customers in a more streamlined, more cost effective and more sustainable way."
The Coolant Control Hub max optimizes the temperature of the drivetrain, battery, and vehicle interior, significantly reducing the number of components needed. By primarily using the refrigerant system to cool and heat a water-glycol circuit, refrigerant usage can be decreased by over 80%, enabling the use of safe, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly refrigerants like propane or CO2, while eliminating PFAS chemicals. Its intelligent, needs-based distribution in the circuit allows for optimally adapted target temperatures for the interior and battery. It also efficiently heats these components with a flexible heat pump system utilizing ambient air, the drivetrain, and the refrigerant system's self-heating function. This eliminates half of the current coolant and refrigerant valves and electric auxiliary heaters, reducing the overall system weight by about 20% compared to conventional systems. As a result, the Coolant Control Hub max helps to minimize CO2 emissions, extend driving range, and reduce the resource needed.
The award is selected by a panel of judges based on five criteria: technological advancement, technical feasibility, economic viability, market recognition, and user experience. A total of 100 outstanding companies and technologies were selected in this year's competition, and FORVIA HELLA’s CCH max stood out among them and successfully won this award.
