So as to exclude other causes of malfunctioning, check the periphery in the area of the airbag system.
In such a case, constant contact between the plug connection of the side airbag (Picture 1 position 3) and upholstery of the seat backrest (Picture 1 position 1) is responsible for the above-mentioned problem.
Remedy:
- Dismantle cover of the seat backrest
- Define the marked area (Figure 1 position 2) of the seat backrest upholstery
- (Figure 1 position1) and cut it out with a suitable tool (e.g. a cutter knife)
- Check plug connection (Figure 1 position 3) for correct fit
- Position the plug connection in the cut-out area
- (Figure 2 position 4 and 5) and fix, ensuring connection is relieved of strain
- Fit cover on seat backrest
- Unlock the airbag system
This should be followed by an error code query using a suitable diagnostic unit (delete error memory if necessary) and a test drive to check the repair measures should also be carried out.
