ESP lamp lights up

If the ESP warning lamp lights up sporadically or permanently in the above vehicles, this may be caused by a faulty lateral acceleration sensor.

To make sure that the problem is caused by the sensor, the fault memory should be read out and the wiring of the sensor should be checked beforehand.

The lateral acceleration sensor (G200) is located under the driver's seat. It can be designed as a combination sensor (rotation rate + lateral acceleration) or as a single sensor. The single sensor is located below the right seat rail (Figure 1, Pos. 1).

To replace the sensor, proceed as follows:

  • Loosen the clamp of the sensor (Figure 1, Pos. 2)
  • Unlock and disconnect the sensor plug
  • Remove the sensor
  • Install the new sensor and connect the plug
  • Calibrate or zero the sensor using a diagnostic instrument
  • Clear the fault memory
  • Carry out a test drive

Note: The fault memory can often be cleared only after the zeroing the new sensor.
