VW Golf 7 - wiper failure (windscreen)

If the windscreen wipers fail, the fuse should be checked first. If it is not defective, the recommendation is reading out the error memory using a diagnostic device. If an error code is stored there in connection with the wiper motor, the cause could be a communication error between the wiper motor and the multifunction control unit. If this is the case, disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes can remedy the problem. After connecting the battery, all error memory entries should be cleared. In many cases, the wiper motor works again. Check whether a software update is available from the vehicle manufacturer to permanently remedy the problem.
