P0299 Mazda - Vehicle goes into limp-home mode and exhibits poor acceleration behaviour

A BI-turbo unit is installed in this vehicle model. This two-stage turbocharging with a small turbocharger that responds early and a large turbocharger for high speeds ensures an optimum engine response in all speed ranges.

If the fault mentioned above is detected, it may also be related to a defective bypass flap on the small turbocharger. A mechanical defect ensures that the flap does not close properly and thus cannot build up sufficient boost pressure. In this case, the charge air hoses on the turbocharger should be removed and the flap control visually inspected. In our case study, the flap (1) had already completely detached from the lever (2). Repair notes

In a repair case, the complete turbocharger unit must be removed and replaced. The vehicle manufacturer does not offer the option of repairing the bypass flap’s operating device.

Please follow the repair instructions from the vehicle manufacturer in this regard.
