Headlamps fail when driving

If the above problem is detected when driving, a defective headlamp control unit can be the underlying cause.

If the headlamps fail, proceed as follows:

  • Stop the vehicle (caution: take traffic conditions into account)
  • Turn off ignition
  • Switch on the ignition and restart the engine (the headlamps will be reactivated)
  • Repeat the procedure should the headlamps fail again
  • Visit an authorized specialist garage immediately

Remedy:

Have the software for the headlamp module and BCM (body control module) updated in an authorized specialist garage.

The vehicle manufacturer has already addressed the issue and notified the owners of all the models concerned. For various reasons, however, it must be assumed that not all vehicles have been checked or rectified.
