Auxiliary internal combustion engine activated when battery discharged (risk of intoxication)

When an electric car is switched off, a warning sound informs the user if the system (electric motor) is still active.

If this warning is ignored and the system is not switched off, the range extender comes on of its own accord (as soon as the battery is fully discharged).

Since the range extender is an internal combustion engine, this carries a fatal risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, especially if the vehicle is switched off in an enclosed space (garage).

The vehicle manufacturer has already addressed the issue and notified the owners of all the affected models.

For various reasons, however, it can be assumed that not all vehicles have been inspected and repaired.

The specialist garage will perform a software update on the affected vehicles.

The software modification ensures that the range extender does not remain switched on for too long.
