The product group of Car Body Lighting combines all products of the exterior vehicle lighting, except headlamps and rear combination lamps. So, HELLA offers a comprehensive portfolio of fog lamps, daytime running lights and front combination lamps. Rear fog lights, center high mounted stop lamps, additional turn indicators, rear signal lamps and license plate lamps belong to this product group, too. HELLA produces Car Body Lighting with LED light source for more than 20 years, starting with the first center high mounted stop lamp in 1993.
During poor weather conditions, a good illumination of the roadway is needed. Simoultaneously it is important to minimize the reflective glare affecting the driver’s own vehicle. HELLA’s product portfolio offers solutions for fog lamps to improve the illumination during these driving conditions in combination with a unique individual appearance. Due to the long experience in lighting, HELLA achieves a high level of process and product maturity which comes along with a short development time for the customer specific products. In general HELLA offers two modular concepts- one with a high standardization rate that allows for cost effective solutions and one that offers more design possibilities. Both concepts can be realized either with bulb or with LED light source and, depending on the chosen light source, glass or PC cover lens.
Daytime running lights are required by law in Europe since 2011 and contribute to the driver’s safety during daytime rides in the way that the reaction time of other road users is extended due to the fact that they observe the vehicle earlier. The daytime running lights are switched on or off automatically by starting or parking the vehicle.
Besides the integration of daytime running lights in the headlamp HELLA offers solutions for integration in the bumper. These customer specific solutions base on, like the fog lamp, two concepts, whereof one bases on standard components and the second one offers more flexibility in design.
HELLA daytime running lights are equipped either with bulbs or LEDs as light source. Thereby the LED offers a wider scope of design as well as an increased energy-saving potential.
Front combination lamps combine styling, technology and function and support the brand identification. Functions like fog lamp, turn indicator, daytime running light, position light, cornering light or additional high beam can be combined freely in one housing and by integration in the bumper it allows for a compact headlamp design. Not only the functions, but the light source, too, can be chosen freely- all functions can be realized either with bulb or with LED light source.
Depending on the scope, the chosen light source as well as the design of the integrated functions different vehicle lines can be distinguished from each other.
HELLA offers cost efficient solutions by usage of standard parts like reflectors that are already implemented in fog lamps and daytime running lights.
HELLA offers turn indicators for various installation positions: integrated in the bumper or in the side view mirror as well as lateral in the vehicle body. For all installation positions the turn indicators can be realized either with bulb or with LED light source.
Turn indicators in the bumper can either be part of a front combination lamp or installed as single function lamp.
Integrated in the side view mirror, the turn indicator can be a light guide or reflector solution. The light guide can be separated or integrated in the lens while the reflector version is equipped with a translucent lens. To increase the homogeneous appearance, a semi-translucent lens can be used, too.
A sequential turn indicator can be integrated, too, so that the turn emulates the turn indicator that is integrated in the headlamp.
Center high mounted stop lamps (CHMSL) are positioned above the stop lamp and can be installed from inside or outside. It helps to avoid collisions by warning the following traffic and thanks to the fast reaction time of the LED light source the warning effect increases. Optical systems like Fresnel lens, taifoon lens, direct reflector, indirect reflector, light guide or micro optics allow the CHMSL to take up the styling of the rear combination lamp. Based on its know how in optical systems, HELLA can offer solutions with combined translucent materials to increase the homogeneous appearance and efficiency of the CHMSL. A cost effective solution with a standard module for integration in the rear panel where the housing is customer specific rounds off our portfolio
Thanks to its know how and experience with LED HELLA is able to illume the license plate homogeneously with a spot light source. For this purpose HELLA offers sealed and non-sealed concepts whereas the long lifetime of the LED light source allows for an installation from inside and thus for a simplified sealing concept without any special theft protection.
By developing standard models that can be implemented across multiple platforms, cost benefits can be achieved due to higher output quantities.
Furthermore HELLA offers versions with only one LED where either two compact lamps or only one lamp illume the license plate thanks to its special optical system.
Rear Signal Lamps are customer specific products and installed on the vehicle rear. Each function as long as it is not integrated into the rear lamp can be included in a rear signal lamp. That way reverse light, rear fog lamp, turn indicator and rear reflex can combined freely in one housing and allow for a compact design of the rear lamp. All functions can be realized with bulb or LED light source and thus any combination of light source and function is possible. Integrated in the bumper, rear signal lamps can be assembled from inside or outside the fascia.
By using the marker light spot the driver‘s attention is called to potential sources of danger. In this way e.g. persons standing at the roadside are illuminated to briefly draw the driver‘s attention to them. As a result the driver recognizes the potential risk earlier, the reaction time is shortened and an accident can be avoided.
