Maintenance information on brake piston reset

Proceed with caution when carrying out a brake piston reset (e.g. when changing the pads)

on the rear axle disc brake system of Ford vehicles.

The pistons for brake callipers known to be in use until now have been reset by turning them clockwise.

For brake callipers on the Focus and Galaxy vehicle models (model year 2004 onwards), the piston for the passenger side brake is turned back clockwise and the piston for the driver side brake is turned back counterclockwise.

Required tool:

  • Brake piston resetting tool with a second spindle.

(left-hand thread)

or

  • Tool with freely rotating adapter plates.

The spindles are used to exert pressure in this case. The piston is turned using the open-end wrench on the adapter plate.

Note

Using the right tool prevents damage to the brake calliper!

Please follow the repair information for the vehicle manufacturer in this regard.
