Failure of the power steering may occur in the vehicles listed above.
The cause may be a defective relay in the power steering control unit. During production of the control unit, it is possible that moisture entered a relay. This can lead to a short-circuit and thus cause the power steering to fail.
Steering is then heavy, and the failure is indicated to the driver by visual and acoustic means (warning light and beep). Despite the failure of the power steering assistance, the vehicle can still be steered.
The vehicle manufacturer has already addressed the issue and notified owners of affected models.
The defective relay in affected vehicles is replaced at specialist garages.
The repair is registered under the corresponding chassis number in the Toyota warranty system.
For various reasons, however, it must be assumed that not all vehicles have been checked or modified.
