The instrument cluster displays a message stating that the electronic steering assistance has been deactivated.
The error message is accompanied by a warning tone.
If the steering assistance fails, it is still possible to steer the vehicle, but more force will be required to do so.
In this case, insufficient memory in the electronic steering software is the cause of the aforementioned problem.
The vehicle manufacturer has already addressed the issue and notified the owners of all the affected models. For various reasons, however, it must be assumed that not all vehicles have been checked or modified.
When brought into the specialist garage, the affected vehicles have the memory capacity of their electronic steering software modified.
