With the market launch of the R230 and W211 series, series vehicles have now been fitted with the Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) electro-hydraulic brake system for the first time. Under certain circumstances, the system runs a safety test (pre-drive check), during which the brake pressure is increased for a brief period. For this reason, the system must be deactivated before all repair operations. Failure to do so can lead to injury to the technician due to the automatic build-up of pressure.
A suitable diagnostic unit is required in order to deactivate the SBC system. When the system is deactivated, the system pressure is relieved and the high-pressure pump is switched off. At the same time, a red warning symbol appears on the instrument cluster.
The brake system cannot be operated when in this state. Once repair work is complete, the system must be reactivated.
