Information on brake repairs

All models with SBC brake systems

System information

With the market launch of the R230 and W211 series, series vehicles have now been fitted with the Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) electro-hydraulic brake system for the first time. Under certain circumstances, the system runs a safety test (pre-drive check), during which the brake pressure is increased for a brief period. For this reason, the system must be deactivated before all repair operations. Failure to do so can lead to injury to the technician due to the automatic build-up of pressure.

Deactivating the brake system

A suitable diagnostic unit is required in order to deactivate the SBC system. When the system is deactivated, the system pressure is relieved and the high-pressure pump is switched off. At the same time, a red warning symbol appears on the instrument cluster.

The brake system cannot be operated when in this state. Once repair work is complete, the system must be reactivated.

Safety notice

  • Repair work on SBC brake systems may only be carried out by trained specialists.
  • For all repair work, please observe the safety and assembly instructions provided by the system or vehicle manufacturer in question.
