Activate maintenance mode on a Mazda CX5 with electromechanical parking brake

Vehicles equipped with an electromechanical parking brake can be set to maintenance mode as follows.

Before the brake pads on the rear axle brake callipers can be replaced, the electric actuator motors must be retracted.

Activation procedure:

  • Secure vehicle against rolling away
  • Switch on the ignition
  • Press the accelerator pedal all the way down and hold it
  • Press and hold the parking brake switch
  • Operate ignition switch 3 x (off - on - off)

As soon as the electric motors move back audibly, the switch and the accelerator pedal can be released. If the maintenance mode has been activated correctly, the indicator lamp (1) for the electromechanical parking brake flashes on the instrument cluster.

Afterwards, the brake pistons can be pushed back for the brake pad change using a suitable tool.

Deactivate maintenance mode on a Mazda CX5 with electromechanical parking brake

Before deactivating it after the brake repair, depress the brake pedal a few times so that the brake pistons and brake pads are brought into the operating position.

Deactivation procedure:

  • Secure vehicle against rolling away
  • Switch on the ignition
  • Press the accelerator pedal all the way down and hold it
  • Pull and hold the parking brake switch
  • Operate ignition switch 3 x (off - on - off)

As soon as the electric motors audibly extend, the switch and the accelerator pedal can be released. If the maintenance mode has been deactivated correctly, the indicator lamp for the electromechanical parking brake on the instrument cluster will go off.

Repair notes

The procedure is identical for vehicles with all-wheel drive. Repair and maintenance work on the brake system should only be carried out by a trained specialist in the automotive trade! Please always observe the maintenance and repair notes provided by the vehicle manufacturer in this context.
