Just one click to the right component with automated diagnosis

Using artificial intelligence, Hella Gutmann is ushering in a new era of vehicle diagnostics: with automated diagnoses. The complexity of diagnostics has also increased continuously with the diversity of drive types and the multitude of vehicle systems. You have got used to the idea that diagnostics can be time-consuming. Often, finding the cause of the error is complicated by uncertainties. Therefore, it is possible that one and the same error code is assigned to different occurrences. Or the list of stored errors and subsequent errors is so long that a technician without knowledge of all the correlations can only guess where to start looking. With this in mind, Hella Gutmann has been pursuing the goal of making diagnostics as convenient, efficient and reliable as possible for years. The real-time repair concept introduced in 2010 was a milestone in the journey to this goal. But there is more. Now Hella Gutmann is ushering in a new era with 'Automated Diagnosis' (AD). AD has succeeded in bringing the diagnostic and repair expertise acquired over decades into vehicle diagnostics using an artificial intelligence (AI) model. This is the first time that three crucial guiding principles have been fulfilled:

• Vehicle diagnostics with less than three clicks • Identification of the defective component • Expertise of the Technical Call Centre in mega macs

Automated diagnostic process up to the defective component

Like an intelligent automatic transmission in a vehicle, the mega macs in AD mode automatically selects the next diagnostic step and guides the user through the diagnostic process. The AD system makes decisions on which further steps are necessary to isolate potential causes and ultimately to rectify the error. Thanks to AI, the mega macs in AD mode knows the shortest route for all system diagnostics, which systems are installed in the vehicle and which parameters are relevant for the diagnostic process. It is able to correlate and evaluate these – in a very similar way to a self-learning automatic transmission system that makes the right decision based on the situation. And, of course, AD with the mega macs also offers a "tip-tronic" function. The user can track all automated steps in real time and has the option to intervene manually at any time. In the end, the AD suggests the most likely defective component or spare part to the user and provides necessary additional information such as installation instructions. 'Automated Diagnosis' is an intelligent system that continually improves itself. The AD function is based on around 2 billion historical error codes and around 5 million statistically recorded causalities from the Technical Call Centre. Even at this stage, the defective components can be identified with a high degree of probability in more than 80 percent of diagnostic cases. This high success rate will constantly improve thanks to AI and feedback from more than 120 automotive experts. AD will be integrated into the SDI mega macs diagnostic software by the end of 2022, so it will automatically be available to all mega macs users with the appropriately configured devices.
