At the same time, noises originate from the exhaust gas system and the engine has rough running properties.

Error code P2459 is also output in the engine control unit.

  • Diesel particulate filter, regeneration producer quantity of the DPF regeneration cycles too high.

A software weakness of the engine control unit or also a faulty regeneration process of the DPF (diesel particulate filter) could be considered for the message displayed in the DIC (Driver Information Center).

The vehicle manufacturer has already addressed the issue and notified owners of all models affected. For various reasons, however, it must be assumed that not all vehicles have been checked or modified.

A software update of the engine control unit is carried out in the authorized specialist garage.

Info:

The diesel particulate filter filters harmful soot particles from the engine exhaust gases and is equipped with a self-cleaning function. The DPF filter is cleaned by burning the soot particles retained at high temperature. This process generally happens automatically under certain driving conditions while driving (approx. every 500 - 1000 km).

The filament symbol illuminates when the diesel particulate filter is full.

The filament symbol flashes when the diesel particulate filter has reached its maximum filling level.

If the "Garage" symbol is also shown in the Driver Information Center, a regeneration is not possible (please visit a specialist garage).

The regeneration process must be started immediately in order to avoid damaging the engine.
