Illumination of the engine control light and sporadic problems on engine start.

On the above mentioned vehicles sporadic problems may occur on engine start or the engine may die. In addition the engine control light may illuminate. This problem may be caused by a damaged wiring harness above the power steering pump (see figure). The fault on the wiring harness may be caused by "chaffing" on the cable harness guide. To rectify this problem, the wiring harness should be checked. Repair / renew damaged areas and fasten correctly (incl. protector).
