Renault, Citroen, Peugeot - Poor braking with the driving brake | HELLA

Renault, Citroen, Peugeot

All models with drum brakes

Poor braking with the driving brake and parking brake.

Malfunction of the automatic adjusting device on the rear axle drum brake system.

If one of the errors listed above occurs on these vehicle models, the cause may stem from a vertically mounted safety clip on the brake shoe.(Fig.1)

The lower brake shoe spring presses on the safety clip, thereby preventing the adjusting element from moving. In addition, this can result in slippage during adjusting, leading to damage to the gear teeth. In this case, the position of the safety clip has to be corrected.

Positioning the safety clip horizontally (Fig. 2) ensures free movement of the brake shoe spring and thus unimpaired functionality of the adjusting device.

Note

Please remember to always follow the general assembly instructions for installing and removing drum brakes and other special installation instructions from the brake pad or vehicle manufacturer in this regard.
