Automaker Opel uses DOT 3 and DOT 4 brake fluid in its models. This fluid is compliant with the components in the respective brake systems and must not be mixed together in a brake system assembly!
Mixing can lead to the following complaints:
Designation
Vehicle
DOT 3
Campo, Brava, Monterey, Frontera, Trooper, Midi, Rascal
DOT 4
Omega, Insignia, Calibra, Corsa, Kadett, Nova, Astra
If the brake fluid can no longer be clearly identified, the brake system should be bled and refilled using the brake fluid specified by the manufacturer.
DOT 4 brake fluid is more aggressive than DOT 3 and can cause rubber components to swell up and ultimately lead to complete failure of the brake system. If a brake system designed to use DOT 3 fluid was inadvertently filled with DOT 4 fluid, all rubber parts and brake hoses in the brake system must be replaced as a precautionary measure.
Please observe the maintenance and repair notes provided by the vehicle manufacturer in this context.
