Chevrolet Aveo - Engine starts on its own when the ignition key is in the "Off" position | HELLA

Chevrolet

Aveo

Model Year: 11/2010 – 08/2014

Chassis number: …CB00250 / …FB024978

Engine starts on its own when the ignition key is in the "Off" position

If the problem described above is determined, the cause could be a faulty ignition lock.

As a result of too much wear on the ignition lock cylinder, the engine can start in an uncontrolled fashion even if the ignition key is in the "Off" position.

Notes:

Make sure the vehicle is prevented from starting to move when the engine is switched on.

  • Actuate the parking brake
  • Disengage the clutch
  • Only now is the ignition key to be inserted into the ignition lock

The vehicle manufacturer has already addressed the issue and notified the owners of all the models concerned. For various reasons, however, it must be assumed that not all vehicles have been checked or rectified.

Remedy:

In such a case, please contact an authorized specialist workshop where the faulty ignition lock cylinder will be replaced by a modified one.

This procedure is marked in the service booklet as "OSB14-10-065".
