Noise when engine is cold and outside temperature is low

With the above-mentioned vehicles, rattling, rather non-specific noises may occur when the engine is cold and the outside temperature is low. The noise disappears when operating temperature returns to normal. The dual-mass flywheel could be a possible cause of the problem.

In order to rule out other causes, the engine and transmission suspension and also other components (which could trigger the noise) should be inspected and checked. In addition, the error memory of the engine control unit is to be read out.  If no error is detected, a software update of the engine control unit should be carried out. The modified characteristic values can help to ensure that the noises no longer occur.

It is always advisable to contact a VW workshop when remedying such problems.
