Volkswagen Lupo - Excessively high engine temperature | HELLA

Volkswagen

Lupo

If there are complaints on the Lupo about the symptoms ·"excessively high engine temperature" or "engine overheating", along with a check on the peripheral components for engine temperature management (thermostat, temperature sensor etc.) the correct function of the water pump is to be checked.

This problem may be caused by a broken impeller (plastic impeller, see figure 2+3) in the water pump.

To check the function of the water pump, remove the cap from the coolant expansion vessel. Then maintain the engine at an engine speed of approx. 2000 rev/min.

Also remove the coolant return pipe from the

coolant expansion vessel (see figure 1.).

If no coolant flow is detected, the water pump is

to be renewed.
