Functional defect of cabin fan

during low outside temperatures

Should the vehicles mentioned above experience a defect of the cabin fan, the possible cause might be frozen water inside the fan enclosure.

Under certain conditions, falling snow can enter the fan enclosure via the fresh air intake.

There, it may condensate and freeze during low outside temperature, thus blocking the fan motor. Vehicles with Climatronic will then display the following error codes:

  • 1273 (fresh air fan, mechanical error)
  • B10BE07 (fresh air fan, mechanical error)

To eliminate the problem, uninstall the fan motor and check. If no damage is evident, the motor can be reinstalled. Bore a hole with a 4 mm diameter at the deepest point of the fan enclosure. This ensures that the accumulated water will be drained.
