The above vehicles may experience a slow coolant loss. It is not possible to determine the cause of this issue at a glance.
To determine the cause of the coolant loss in the TDI motors with the code letters "BKD," proceed as follows:
- Perform a visual check on all the relevant system components (traces of coolant, leaks)
- Perform a pressure loss test on the cooling system
- Check the coolant for contamination (oil)
- Check for coolant in the engine oil
Should the above methods fail to determine the source of the coolant loss, the following potential causes must also be considered:
- Internal leaks in the exhaust gas recirculation radiator (AGR)
- Defective cylinder head gasket
- Hairline cracks in the cylinder head
