Battery discharged, vehicle cannot be started
With the above-mentioned vehicle type, the radiator fan may switch on of its own accord and does not switch off. It is also possible for the radiator fan to be activated after a longer stationary period of over an hour. The battery is heavily discharged and it is no longer possible to start the engine.
One reason for this fault may be a thermally overloaded relay contact. This overload can cause the relay contact to "stick" and it can then no longer open properly. This can be done, for example, with a screwdriver. Tapping lightly on the affected relay usually opens the relay contacts again. If the contacts are open, the radiator fan also switches off again.
Another option for checking the relay contacts is the performing of a visual inspection. The relay housing can be opened and then the contacts inside checked. If thermal overloads are visible on the relay contact, the relay has to be replaced.
Once the cause of the fault has been removed, delete the error memory and then carry out a test drive.
