A faulty coolant pump in the Mercedes W213 can negatively impact the brake pedal

A faulty motor coolant pump can cause coolant to enter the brake system's vacuum system. Furthermore, oil can enter the system via the tandem pump. This impairs the function, making it difficult to operate the brake pedal. The engine check lamp also lights up periodically.

The following components should be replaced to rectify the problem:

  • Coolant pump
  • Tandem pump (engine oil/vacuum)
  • Vacuum solenoid valve
  • All vacuum lines

The vacuum system must also be checked for further contamination and cleaned if necessary. It may be necessary to replace other components. After completing the repair, the fault memory should be cleared, the braking performance tested using a brake tester and a test drive carried out.
