Noise generation on uneven road surfaces

On the vehicles mentioned above, unspecific, squeaking or creaking noises can occur from the area of the front wheel suspension. These are particularly noticeable when driving on uneven road surfaces. Excessive friction between the shock absorber piston rod and the bump stop is a possible cause. This can be remedied as follows:

  • Lift the shock absorber's dust boot so that the piston rod is visible
  • Apply lubricant (A001989845110) to the piston rod
  • Return the dust boot to its original position
  • Carry out a test drive

Please note

  1. If it is discovered that the shock absorbers are leaking, replacing them is recommended.
  2. This technical information does not apply to vehicles with air suspension.
