Noises when manoeuvring/parking
When manoeuvring/parking or driving over bumps, the above-mentioned vehicles may make crackling and/or clicking noises. Searching for the cause of this can sometimes be very difficult.
In the course of troubleshooting, the following components should be carefully checked:
- Steering column/steering shaft/steering bearings (too much play/loose/worn out)
- Front axle
- Stabilisers/tie rods/supporting ball joints/wishbones (ball heads, sockets; rubber bearings - loose, damaged, worn out)
- Drive shafts (play/water ingress/sleeves/bearings)
- Suspension strut (camber plates/coupling rods damaged, worn)
- Steering (tie rods damaged/worn out, play in steering gear)
- Wheel bearings/wheel bolts (loose/damaged)
