On the above mentioned vehicles, a faulty alternator free-wheeling clutch can result in the premature failure of the alternator.
A missing or faulty protective cap on the belt pulley with the free-wheeling clutch results in premature wear. This problem mostly makes itself apparent with noises (caused by the faulty bearing in the free-wheeling clutch). To rectify the problem, the free-wheeling clutch with the belt pulley or, if necessary, the alternator should be replaced.
Note: on fitting the alternator it is imperative you ensure the protective cap is present. This item is also available separately from the vehicle manufacturer under item no. 93167817.
The figure shows examples of the protective cap and free-wheeling clutch.
