Important safety note
Technical information and practical tips have been compiled by HELLA in order to provide professional support to vehicle workshops in their work. The information provided on this website is intended for use by suitably qualified personnel only.
With the above-mentioned vehicle type, it can happen that the vehicle electronics fail. Malfunctions in systems such as the parking aid, radio system, air conditioning, electric tailgate and the instrument cluster are possible. In addition, individual control units may show up communication problems during diagnostic procedures.
Error codes relating to communication faults on the data bus are stored in the error memory during the overall query.
If the above-mentioned fault is present and if no definite faults have been detected in the periphery of the affected systems during the diagnosis, then special attention should be paid to the radar sensor in the bumper to the rear on the left.
As a result of moisture ingress in the radar sensor, interference can be caused on the data bus. This means that error-free communication between the individual control units is no longer possible, resulting in the failure of individual systems.
In order to check the radar sensor, the rear bumper has to be removed.
If the visual inspection reveals signs of corrosion in the plug connection of the radar sensor, then this sensor has to be replaced.
The plug or connector contacts on the vehicle harness must also be checked; if there are also signs of corrosion here, the plug connection has to be repaired and returned to good working order.
After completion of repairs, the system has to be calibrated in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.
IMPORTANT
Please always follow the repair instructions from the vehicle manufacturer when carrying out such work.
Further information on checks and calibration of the radar sensor system can be found in Hella Tech World in the section on Lane Change Assistant.
