Important safety note
Technical information and practical tips have been compiled by HELLA in order to provide professional support to vehicle workshops in their work. The information provided on this website is intended for use by suitably qualified personnel only.
A defective plastic hose of the vent valve on the engine (Fig. 1) can be the cause of rough engine running in the above-mentioned vehicle. Sucking in "false air" can also cause problems with the exhaust emission test.
In such a case, the damaged, worn-through area (Fig. 2) cannot always be easily located. Furthermore, the noise caused by the leakage is also not always present or its occurrence depends on the engine speed/engine vibration.
In order to rectify the problem, the top covering the engine has to be removed. Then remove the two screws of the vent valve (which is attached to the top of the engine). Unclip the venting hose on the intake manifold. Replace valve and hose. Make sure that the hose is laid correctly.
This information may also apply to other engine codes.
