Troubleshooting the reverse lamps failure is straightforward:
In this case, the procedure was followed exactly.
The bulb and fuse were OK.
However, there was no voltage (12V) at the reverse lamp.
Thus, the only possible cause was a faulty reverse switch. The switch was bypassed but the reverse lamp was still faulty.
As part of further troubleshooting, the power supply was checked at the pins of the connector on the reversing switch. In this case, there was no voltage. Upon further inspection of the plug, it was established that it was possible to pull out one of the two cables from the connector housing.
Consequently, a cable break inside the connector housing was the cause for the reverse lamp failure. Normal function resumed after having replaced the connector.
