With this kind of repair job, the customer complains of a grinding noise in the steering column area when the steering wheel is moved/turned.
If the problem described above is identified, one possible cause may be insufficient lubrication of the sliding contacts for the driver's airbag on the steering column.
Repair notes:
-Remove the driver's airbag (Caution: work on and with airbags may only be carried out by qualified personnel).
-Grease the sliding contacts for the airbag on the steering column with the special lubricant prescribed by the vehicle manufacturer (G 052 172 M2).
-Reinstall the driver's airbag.
Subsequently, a test drive should be undertaken to check the repair measure and also an error code query should be carried out with a suitable diagnostic unit.
IMPORTANT:
Please note that such repair work should only be carried out by an authorised specialist workshop and that the vehicle manufacturer's repair and maintenance instructions are to be observed!
