The radiator fan in the above vehicles can malfunction. Specifically, a defective fan series resistor can cause one or both fan stages to fail.
The fan resistor is mounted to the fan shroud (Fig. 1). The manufacturer of the vehicle does not offer the resistor as a single spare part, but only in conjunction with the fan and shroud assembly. Independent aftermarket retailers do offer the resistor as a single spare part, however (Fig. 2).
Before installing, you should check to ensure that the fan motor is fully functional, does not have any bearing play and/or does not make any odd noises. The technical information provided by the parts supplier for the new resistor must be read and observed. To facilitate installation, we recommend that you remove the fan shroud together with the fan.
