Dream car with 210 hp – the Memminger Roadster 2.7

18-09-2018

The company Memminger Feine-Cabrios & Stahlbau GmbH ranks as one of the best places to go if you're looking for top-quality, professional restoration of Beetle vehicles. Based at Reichertshofen in Bavaria, Georg Memminger's firm has been restoring VW Beetles for some twenty years. His personal claim for restorations: Classic cars that are like new – nothing less. And with the Memminger Roadster 2.7 Georg Memminger has developed his own dream car - a stunning example of German automotive engineering.

In total, over 22.5 million of the legendary Beetle were produced between 1938 and 2003. Yet anyone looking for one in the listings for used cars generally won't find more than 1000 on offer. And most listed for sale probably wouldn't make it to Georg Memminger's workshop, his quality standard is so high. For restorations Memminger mainly uses new parts he has made himself, or genuine and/or repro parts.

Specializing in Beetles for over 20 years
"We've set ourselves the goal of building nothing less than the best Beetles. For this reason, our convertibles and sedans cannot be compared with other vehicles on the market," runs the company's website. And if you take a look at other firms specializing in Beetles, you'll believe this right away.
The Memminger Roadster 2.7 has become the last word for people passionate about the Beetle. The vehicle looks a lot like the Beetle. And it's in fact based on a genuine Beetle with a 2444 mm wheelbase. Boasting a tubular steel frame, the Roadster has however the feel of a real mid-engined sportscar.

Power-to-weight ratio on a par with Porsche
The vehicle is equipped with a 2.7 litre, four-cylinder, air-cooled boxer engine, which was developed by Memminger himself. Boasting 210 hp, it weighs in at just 800 kg. This means its power-to-weight ratio is on a par with today's Porsche 911 Carrera!
When it comes to putting the Roadster's dynamic potential on the road, Georg Memminger relies on 18-inch wheels with 225/45-18 tyres at the front and 255/40-18 at the rear. It also comes with a powerful braking system from the Porsche stable. In addition, the hub carriers und semitrailing arms are reinforced.

A puristic driving experience
Georg Memminger has on the other hand done without too much electronics: The idea was for the Memminger Roadster 2.7 to revolve around the driving experience. The man behind this project is certain: The accelerator, steering wheel, rev counter, speedometer and gearshift will be sufficient for maximum enjoyment at the wheel.
What are the chances of spotting the Memminger Roadster 2.7 driving in traffic? Virtually zero: Georg Memminger is only planning to produce 20 examples of this speedy Roadster.
