The trip
6 Russian adventurers set out on a more than 10,000 km track through Asia and Europe, seeking to traverse the northern mainland as quickly as possible. The trip was, both, exciting and stressful.
The challenging car exhibition took place with the support of the Russian Geographical Society and some of the world's leading manufacturers that provided their team members with equipment materials.
The challenges
Toyota Hilux vehicles in standard configuration were made available as expedition cars.
The only permitted change to the vehicles consisted in lighting, which was indispensable under these toughest environmental conditions and weather. Polar night, storms and frequently no visibility kept on posing novel challenges to the teams and the materials. Thanks to the Hella Luminator Xenon and the fog lamps, the vehicles' lighting equipment was optimal.
The destination
The expedition route was more than 10,000 kilometers long! It led along the Kara Sea ice in order to reach the northern-most continental point -- the city of Dikson.
The trip took place at extremely low temperatures. The vehicles drove on arctic fuel at continuously running engines.
The rescue
On its return, the travel team ran into serious problems due to the weather conditions. Ice hills had damaged the tires. The nuclear ice-breaker "Taimyr" scooped up the entire team and its vehicles and shipped the expedition to the port of Dudinka. There, the cars could once again be made ready for the road and the trip home started.
The next adventures already awaits.
