HELLA's evolution of rear lamps: 120 years of innovation and brand-specific design
Rear lamps are among the lighting solutions that have evolved the most since the early days of car production. In the first decades, they were relatively small and only served as tail and stop lights to ensure sufficient distance from vehicles behind you. In the course of time, however, many more functions have been added: Reverse lamps, rear direction indicators, rear fog lamps and reflex reflectors.
LED technology has not only drastically reduced the energy consumption of the lamps, it has also created completely new design options, such as a 3D tunnel effect, light curtain, indirect reflectors and glowing body. Rear lamps therefore also have a growing influence on individual vehicle design, not only for passenger cars, but also in the commercial vehicle and agricultural sectors. They can even serve as a distinguishing feature for the relevant brand – a trend that HELLA supports with customised designs and corresponding optical systems.
