This is how you perform an emergency release of the electromechanical parking brake on a Mazda CX5

Vehicles equipped with an electromechanical parking brake have an emergency release that allows the workshop to release the parking brake if the system fails.

Emergency release procedure:

  • Secure vehicle against rolling away
  • Release the parking brake
  • Disconnect battery
  • Disconnect the electrical plug connections on the actuators of the rear axle brake callipers
  • Undo and remove the screws on the actuator
  • Carefully remove the actuator from the brake calliper
  • Turn the spindle drive (1) in the brake calliper counterclockwise with a suitable tool until the brake pads have come off the brake disc and the brake is free to move.
Repair notes

The procedure is identical for vehicles with all-wheel drive. Repair and maintenance work on the brake system should only be carried out by a trained specialist in the automotive trade! Please always observe the maintenance and repair notes provided by the vehicle manufacturer in this context.
