If it is reported that the fuel gauge is showing incorrect or inaccurate values on these vehicles, a contact problem on the fuel level sensor may be the potential cause.
Proceed as follows to localize the error:
- Check the electrical connections or contact/transfer resistance on the fuel level sensor.
- Remove the fuel level sensor.
- Measure the resistance values at the sensor:
- Minimum position: 405Ω - 415Ω
An impermissible resistance value distorts the data for evaluating the correct displayed value. The fuel level sensor has to be replaced if these values do not match.
An actuator test should be carried out to check the fuel gauge in the instrument cluster. This requires that a resistance decade box with ohm values between 12/18Ω and 405/415 Ω be used in place of the sending unit.
If the actuator and the fuel gauge are operating correctly, this also indicates a defect in the fuel tank sensor.
