In order to best ensure the functionality of a wheel brake, all of the mechanical parts should be greased with a temperature-resistant permanent lubricant during maintenance. The right lubricant is not always used in such cases. Copper paste is very popular as a lubricant for almost every situation.
However, more and more vehicles are being equipped with highly sensitive equipment that electronically controls processes during driving (such as ABS, ESP). A multitude of sensors provide information about the current driving situation to the on-board electronics. If too much copper paste is used or it is used incorrectly, the metal particles it contains can lead to sensor errors and thus to system malfunctions. Vehicles are increasingly being equipped with chassis parts and brake callipers made of aluminium. Copper and aluminium undergo an electrolytic reaction with each other. This can lead to a kind of corrosion, thereby causing the opposite of lubrication.
Therefore, we recommend using HELLA metal-free permanent lubricant.
