Volkswagen Lupo - Engine stops spontaneously in town traffic | HELLA

Volkswagen

Lupo 3 l

with automatic transmission

Model year: from 2000

Engine: 1.2 TDI

Engine stops spontaneously in town traffic.

Transmission is not shifting correctly.

If a customer complains about the above symptoms for these vehicles, there may be several possible causes. The membrane in the pressure accumulator of the hydraulic clutch system might have triggered the above malfunctions. This defect in the pressure accumulator is not necessarily visible externally.

The following error codes may be stored:

Error code `the same as`:

- 00263, 'Transmission faulty'.

- 01073, `Clutch pressure system faulty`.

- 01155, 'Clutch faulty'.

Other symptoms can be poor starting behaviour and stiff shifting behaviour or a blocked gearstick.

The Lupo 3 l has electronically-controlled five-gear transmission with manual shifting function. Both the clutch and the transmission (monitored by sensor technology, combined with a hydraulic system) are electronically controlled. If an error occurs in this control unit, the shifting behaviour is disrupted.

The sporadic dying off of the engine and the poor starting behaviour are subsequent faults, if there are no corresponding transmission parameters (signals) for the engine control unit.

In this case the pressure accumulator on the clutch system must be replaced.
