So-called high force actuators (HFA) really do work hard. HELLA has various HF actuators in its range, which are used, for example, to lock or unlock the boot lid or driver seats. However, there are numerous other applications.
When it comes to electric locking or unlocking, any closing action or motion, electric high force actuators are used. They can exert high actuating forces thanks to a sophisticated, rotary mechanism, also by means of a cable. They are made to be robust and compact.
The electromotive high force actuators from HELLA can be used individually. A universal interface for Bowden cables makes the actuators even more flexible. In addition to closing and locking heavy tailgates and hatchbacks, they are used in other applications such as those for power window lifters and door locking. Appropriate actuators are also used for seat release. If a Bowden cable comes into play, the actuator can also work without being attached to the body as it can be fitted to the application via the Bowden cable sleeve. So as to minimise noise, the actuators can also be embedded in a foam body.
The high force actuators basically convert electrical signals into a mechanical rotary movement and generate high forces in the process. The relevant control unit specifies the direction of rotation and runtime. A DC motor (direct current) is used, which operates an actuator with a rotary output. The actuator is operated via a two-pin or three-pin connector by applying a voltage. Resetting takes place by reversing the polarity or, alternatively, mechanically with the aid of a return spring. The rated voltage of HELLA's high force actuators is 12 V, the maximum current consumption (depending on the actuator) is 10.5 or six amps. The rated torque is between 150 Ncm and 300 Ncm, with a functional angle between 0 and 198 degrees. In order to ensure secure positioning and to avoid any twisting/distortion, the actuators are attached to a base or backing plate by means of three screw-on points.
And incidentally: the robustness of the high force actuators is ensured by a housing made of PP-GF30 (glass- fibre reinforced polypropylene). The connection pins are coated with tin to improve conductivity and corrosion resistance. So you’ve surely got the hang of it now?
