Vehicle diagnosis is part of the daily business of workshops, but it is also becoming increasingly complex. This is particularly the case with multi-brand diagnosis: in order to achieve a higher level of security, many manufacturers regulate access to vehicle data. The technical requirements for on-board diagnostics (OBD) also vary depending on the brand in question.

 

This makes it all the more important that diagnostic systems such as the mega macs from Hella Gutmann are adapted to suit current requirements. With software version 65, we are releasing an update that significantly simplifies OBD thanks to all the new functions and the expanded brand compatibility.

DoIP and CSM for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class

The OBD of the S-Class is considered to be particularly challenging. Almost all systems are secured against unauthorised access by CeBAS (Certificate-based Automotive Security). That is why we have equipped our mega macs with a CSM (Cyber Security Management) function that authorises access. The next obstacle with the new Mercedes-Benz models is this: the diagnosis only works via DoIP. This communication protocol is already available in our new mega macs X. But we also have a solution for the mega macs models 56 and 77: here the necessary DoIP capability can be achieved by interposing mega macs X.

Diagnosing Tesla models with mega macs

The Tesla brand is considered to be one of the leading pioneers in the electric vehicle segment – by workshops but also by discerning customers. Any communication with e-cars was up till now only possible via expensive Tesla equipment. But here’s the good news: with the mega macs software version 65, in future the Tesla S models produced from 2012 onwards and the X models from 2015 can also be diagnosed.

 

AVAILABLE FUNCTIONS

 

Error codes with text for ESP, brake booster, adaptive cruise control, parking aid, airbag, tyre pressure monitoring, electric power steering, vehicle electrical system control unit, driver door control unit, passenger door control unit, keyless entry system, panoramic sunroof, comfort seat control unit.

Basic settings: Maintenance mode for parking brake, resetting learning values for steering angle sensor, special bleeding (brake/brake fluid change), “cleaning” of the parking brake, programming of cover flap of high-voltage charging connector, programming locking actuator of high-voltage charging cable connector, unlocking airbag control unit and setting air conditioning to basic setting mode (for evacuation).

 

Testing of the cooling system is also possible.

SFD system of the VW Group integrated into mega macs software

With software version 65, the Volkswagen Group's "Vehicle Diagnostic Protection" (SFD) system is included in our CSM. This means that even the very latest models of several Group brands can be diagnosed quickly via the manufacturer portal.  

 

The following VW Group models protected by the "Vehicle Diagnostics Protection" system can be diagnosed via CSM with all mega macs devices as is usually the case:

 

– Audi A3: from 2020, Q4 e-tron from 2021 – Cupra: Formentor from 2020, Born from 2021 – Seat: Leon from 2020 – Skoda: Octavia from 2020, Enyaq from 2021 – Volkswagen: Golf 8 from 2019, Caddy from 2020, ID.3 from 2020, ID.4 from 2020, Transporter T7 from 2021
