Ihringen, 19 March 2020. The challenges for workshops are rapidly increasing. Innovations by manufacturers such as diagnosis restrictions for non authorized persons and the switch to digital service records call for new work routines. Further challenges are in store for component activation, flashing of ECUs, calibration of advanced driver assistance systems and for working on vehicle high-voltage systems. Not all workshops have prepared for or are able to meet these challenges. This is why Hella Gutmann will offer its customers even greater and more comprehensive support by the new concept ‚CheckPoint powered by Hella Gutmann‘.

CheckPoint – the calibration and diagnostics center powered by Hella Gutmann – combines hardware, software and know-how at a high level in order to equip workshops across brands for the new challenges. Tough tasks in calibration and diagnosis are solved with the innovative new technologies from Hella Gutmann which include remote services and the CSC-Tool Digital.

The idea: To use state-of-the-art technology and provide independent workshops with fast access to OE data and top know-how. The aim: To establish several CheckPoints in cooperation with trade partners and efficient workshops in order to create an extensive network which accompanies workshops on their way into the future. Not only the operating workshop itself benefits from a CheckPoint powered by Hella Gutmann but also other multibrand workshops in the vicinity. The motto is: 'Workshop helping workshop.'

Combined expertise for new processes

The services offered by a CheckPoint powered by Hella Gutmann include multibrand diagnosis, calibration of camera, lidar and radar-based driver assistance systems, component activation and calibration of adaptive light systems. In order to be able to calibrate the sensors on the latest vehicle models, Hella Gutmann has developed the CSC-Tool with digital reference panels. This means that expert calibrations can be carried out via remote access even on the latest vehicle models not yet included in the mega macs software. This innovation provides real added value for vehicle glass repair services as well as for body and paint shops.

The standards required from a CheckPoint are respectively high. To qualify for CheckPoint the premises must have a certain size, a level floor, fulfil special lighting and thermal conditions and comply with specific IT requirements. To ensure a stable data connection, a specialized IT company accompanies the setup of efficient IT structures for the overall concept as well as for each individual CheckPoint. A network tailored to fulfil the special requirements and meet industry standards has already been created. Of course, current Hella Gutmann devices are also part of the CheckPoint standard. Last but not least, the high demands on performance can only be met with highly trained professional staff. For the transfer of how-how, which will be based on the principle of 'train the trainer', comprehensive training courses are envisaged.

After a successful pilot phase with 12 partners across Germany, the first CheckPoint franchise modules within existing franchise concepts will now start operating. A CheckPoint in Nürnberg, which is run directly by Hella Gutmann, shows the high standards and practical benefit of this concept. Workshops in the Nürnberg area are already calling on the high-tech services of the CheckPoint.
