Ihringen, 10 September 2024. In Formula 1, the telematic recording of vehicle data has been proving its worth for decades. Real-time data provide the basis for important analyses and decisions by technicians and race managers. Fleet operators, car manufacturers, insurers, breakdown services and garages could also benefit from good real-time data within a defined vehicle pool, either by recording and transmitting vehicle locations, driving patterns, signs of wear, fault codes or system parameters. In partnership with the French telematics specialist Munic S.A., Hella Gutmann has taken this as an opportunity to develop a cloud-based telematics solution for professionals.

The special feature: macsLive enables in-depth diagnostics of vehicles on the road in a way that was previously only possible in the workshop - at least in the multi-brand sector. On the one hand, vehicle conditions can be permanently monitored live via the cloud-based diagnostic platform. On the other hand, the collected data forms the basis for precise, in-depth vehicle diagnostics in real time. This enables experts to make the right decision about the necessary measures - such as the mobile deployment of a technician with the right component, efficient remote support, informing a workshop or recommending services to prevent damage.

As with existing telematics solutions, the macsLive dongle must remain permanently plugged into the vehicle's OBD socket. This is the only way to continuously record vehicle data and transmit it wirelessly to the cloud. However, the practical benefits of telematics solutions stand and fall with the depth and quality of the data and its analysis.
