Ihringen, 10 September 2024. Hella Gutmann’s mega macs X has stood out for its unique features, including selectable software modules, diagnostics via Internet Protocol (DoIP), and the ability to assess the state of health (SoH) of electric vehicle traction batteries. Now, these advanced features are available in a more affordable option with the new mega macs S 20, making it a great choice for workshops looking for a scalable and straightforward diagnostics solution. "The software is highly configurable and meets even the most demanding requirements, including high-voltage battery diagnostics, with exceptional user convenience," says Fabian Bierenstiel, Head of Category Management at Hella Gutmann. Whether you're starting with diagnostics, upgrading from an older device, or setting up additional workstations, the mega macs S 20 provides a flexible, state-of-the-art solution.
The 'mega macs S 20' concept is designed for flexible use with any Android device (running Android 10 or higher), such as a tablet or large smartphone. The software and firmware, licensed for use, bring the full power of Hella Gutmann’s multi-brand diagnostics to your device. The only hardware component included is the 'HG-VCI S 20' which features Bluetooth and USB-C interfaces to enable communication between your tablet or smartphone and the vehicle.
Technologically, the mega macs S 20 is cutting-edge. Its innovative SDI software interface ensures maximum clarity and a quick, intuitive diagnostic process. Additionally, it supports DoIP and CAN-FD data transmission protocols, allowing it to diagnose even the latest vehicles with Ethernet-based networks.
The mega macs S 20 is available in various versions to maximize adaptability to a workshop’s individual needs and future developments. These versions are defined by different software packages and corresponding usage licenses. The SDI software modules S1, S2, and S3 each have matching licenses. License S1 is free and covers essential functions like reading/clearing error codes, performing service resets, and adjusting basic settings. Software updates and extensions for new vehicle models are always included.
Advanced functions such as mileage queries, coding, parameter viewing, actuator tests, and access to the Hella Gutmann CSM are enabled from License S2 onwards. This means that the new mega macs S 20 can also unlock the vehicle manufacturer’s cybersecurity locks. With BMW recently added, CSM now supports diagnostics for 17 brands if needed. The ability to send OBFCM (Onboard Fuel Consumption Monitoring) data to authorities is another key feature, particularly useful for workshops in Austria, the Netherlands, and Denmark, due to regulatory requirements.
Premium features such as error code-based repair suggestions, direct access to the Hella Gutmann knowledge database, and the HV battery diagnostics PRO* function are unlocked with the S3 license. This allows the mega macs S 20 to evaluate the condition of electric vehicle traction batteries using the Battery Quick Check feature, which was previously exclusive to the mega macs X. For workshops that focus on providing this advanced service, the special S battery license offers an ideal solution.
