Hella Gutmann Unveils a Fully Digital, Modular ADAS Calibration Tool

  • Innovative ADAS calibration concept with complete, seamless documentation
  • Guided process ensures error-free calibrations.
  • Camera target sizes always meet OE specifications.
  • Cloud connectivity for fast data exchange with Hella Gutmann diagnostic devices

Ihringen, 10 September 2024. Ten years after introducing the first Camera & Sensor Calibration Tool for multi-brand vehicles, Hella Gutmann is taking ADAS calibration to the next level. The new, fully digital CSC-Tool X 20 will be unveiled at Automechanika in Frankfurt in September 2024. With its fast, semi-automated processes, cloud integration, and seamless documentation, this tool is designed to fit smoothly into any modern workshop’s routine. It will be available from spring 2025.

The CSC-Tool X 20 introduces a brand-new concept that is both detailed and flexible. Unlike previous tools, this new system handles the entire calibration process itself, documenting every step into a comprehensive report. The diagnostic device is only needed for the final step of the vehicle calibration.

The core features of the CSC-Tool X 20 include a strong yet elegant frame with a foldable crossbar, two 3D cameras, an independent panel PC, and an industrial screen that comes in either 75 or 86 inches. It includes 19 digital camera targets, all displayed at OE size, and the larger screen can also show XXL targets from Honda and Iveco, totalling 21 targets. Workshops using an older, analog CSC tool can continue using their existing physical targets. The tool’s modular design also allows for future upgrades, such as radar calibration and 360° environment monitoring, as well as app use at different levels.

The CSC-Tool X 20 is controlled through an app that connects to the cloud via Wi-Fi, accessing the latest vehicle data. It also links to Hella Gutmann’s diagnostic devices, like the mega macs X and mega macs S 20, allowing quick data exchange. This setup reduces the need for repeated data entry and minimizes potential errors.

After identifying the vehicle, the ADAS app automatically sets up the specific calibration plates by determining the vehicle’s height. The user is then guided through the process of aligning the tool to the correct distance and angle relative to the vehicle’s driving axis. Real-time displays of correction values help the user, whether viewing from the panel PC or the large screen.

This guided process, including inaccuracy compensation (runout), helps to avoid errors that could affect calibration accuracy. The suspension Precheck adds further value, ensuring that calibration is only performed when the vehicle’s tolerances are within acceptable limits. No additional time or special wheel alignment equipment is required to complete this optional step.

Correct axle geometry is crucial for the proper functioning of ADAS, especially as autonomous driving features become more common. The CSC Tool X 20’s ADAS app records the entire calibration process, including vehicle data, the operator’s details, stored error codes, runout compensation results, and any chassis Precheck findings. It also captures measured distances and provides clear graphics, along with the overall result. This report can be easily sent to customers or printed out.
